Week 18 In The A-League With Ze Phibber

Round 18 has graced us with its presence and just like that tasty girl at the party it has left too early and has left you wanting more. We have seen some results that have definitely got a few coaches sweating as the top 5 positions can barely be separated.

The first game of the week was between in form Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners. Sydney showed their class in this match taking the win 4-2. Goals to Mark Janko x2 (Syd), Fabio Ferreira x2 (Cen), Rhyan Grant (Syd) and Shane Smeltz (Syd). I sort of feel for the Central Coast here, they played in my opinion the best game of their season. They looked dangerous going forward and were pretty solid at the back. Not as solid as the could have been but still pretty solid. Fabio Ferreira was a handful upfront aswell!

However oh my word, Rhyan Grant's goal was an absolute scorcher. This is the stuff dreams are made of. When you see the ball rolling out to you about 25 yards out you know you have to let it rip and it is potentially the best feeling ever when you see it leave your boot and then pierce the back of the net. He was bloody unlucky not to get the Phibber's Goal Of The Week.

The second game of the week was between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Adelaide United. The match finished with Adelaide taking out the match 2-1. Goals to Labinot Haliti (Wes), Bruce Djite (Ade) and Sergio Cirio (Ade). Adelaide started very poor and it looked like it may have been a classic Adelaide defeat. They have been so inconsistent throughout the season however they must have gotten a big talk in the half time sheds as they came out firing in the second half and managed to take the win in the dying stages of the match much to the delight of the home crowd.

The third game of the week was between my beloved Wellington Phoenix and the Newcastle Jets. The match finished with the Phoenix digging deep and pulling off a great come back to tie the game two goals a piece. Goals to, well the first one is kinda tricky it was an own goal and sort of came off both Manny Muscat and Roly Bonevacia (Wel), Scott Neville (New), Roy Krishna (Wel) and Jason Hicks (Wel).

Man, the Phoenix were poor in the first half. And at the risk of repeating myself they have been struggling so hard to find the form they were in before the new year. However in the final 30 minutes we sort of saw the Phoenix of old and they started looking really dangerous. Still missed too many opportunities.

Nathan Burns looked dangerous however he had a bit of a mare. He produced this hideous back heel miss from 1 yard out when he could have taken a touch and smacked the shit out of it. Then he had a melt down and slid in and blocked Boxalls shot which may have been sneaking in to the corner, if it had been stopped I think it would have been parried to one of our players any way. So yea sorry Nathe, I love ya mate but you have been awarded the Phibber's Knob Of The Week. Anyway things looked gloomy for the Phoenix until the absolute champion Jason Hicks stepped up to take a free kick from just outside the box. I played footy against Jason growing up and he has always been a class player but my word what a free kick. Jason pumped it perfectly into the top right corner in the 93rd minute to allow the Phoenix to share the splenders. Well done mate, as a result you have been awarded the Phibber's Goal Of The Week.

The 4th and final game of the week was between the Perth Glory and Melbourne City. The match finished in a disappointing 0-0 result. Perth are in some serious trouble at the moment. They have yet to notch up a win this year (makes me feel better about the Phoenix) and now the Melbourne Victory are 2 points behind with a game in hand. Perth fans will definitely be getting pretty damn nervous especially when two key players Andy Keogh and Josh Risdon were arrested following a late night. I'm going to say alcohol fueled and with what is happening at the moment in the Australian sporting world I wouldn't be suprised if it was cocaine fueled altercation, just kidding. But still Perth need to pick up and get back to the team we saw in 2014.

Only 9 rounds left now and we are really starting to see some interesting results. Top teams choking and middle teams notching up crucial points, which is making some bloody exciting games. Shit I love footy
