State of Origin - Game 1

Some people have called Game 1 of this year's State of Origin series as one of the best ever. What do you think?

New South Wales won game 1 thanks to some great defence on their try line as the fought off a Queensland team who were trying to get back in the game. For 10 minutes, New South Wales defended their try line and battled hard to make metres as Queensland charged off their line to put pressure on the ball carrier. This is Origin footy.

The match started with Queensland on top. Darius Boyd scored in the corner thanks to a back line move from a scrum. They looked like they were going to continue to dominate but as Cooper Cronk left the field with a broken arm, New South Wales got back in the game.

New South Wales scored as Jarryd Hayne set up Josh Morris who ran down the side line, passing in field to his twin brother Brett. This was a great moment as Brett Morris injured his shoulder as he scored the try, but he returned to the field and continued to play.

Jarryd Hayne then showed what a great player he is as he scored, breaking tackles and rolling to plant the ball on the try line. Hayne received the Man of the Match and his freakish talents were clear throughout the game.

After Darius Boyd scored in the second half to bring Queensland back in to the game, New South Wales had to give it their all. Queensland were putting New South Wales under pressure but New South Wales showed great determination to win.

This was a great State of Origin match. While Jarryd Hayne was awesome, the work of forwards such as Paul Gallen, Beau Scott and Aaron Woods for New South Wales was very tough. Queensland weren't quite at the top of their game but they still fought extremely hard and Billy Slater looked dangerous every time he got the ball.

Many players suffered injuries on Wednesday night. We don't know if these players will be back in time for game 2 in Sydney which will make it very interesting as we might see very different teams than we did for game 1. I'm pretty excited!
