The shorter weekend of NRL footy kicked off with the Bulldogs getting the better of the Canberra Raiders in a chilly Canberra. The Bulldogs were once again guided around the field well by their NSW halves Trent Hodkinson and Josh Reynolds while their forward pack proved too strong and skillful for the Raiders with the Bulldogs winning 22-14.
In Auckland, the Warriors didn't put in their best performance but they were good enough to beat the Broncos 19-10. Konrad Hurrell bulldozed Jack Reed to the tryline while the Warriors defended strongly to hold the Broncos out. The Broncos were weakened by Origin but Sam Thaiday was out to prove a point and was a beast as well.
The Sharks are in trouble, they recorded a third game with 0 points as they were smashed by the Manly Sea Eagles 26-0. Manly have been battling injury and have many players in Origin but with their full strength side nearly back together, they will be extremely tough to beat.
The Melbourne Storm showed that they are still a threat as they gave the Eels a lesson after Chris Sandow was sent to the sin bin for saying silly things to the ref. Billy Slater was the star in the Storm's 46-20, he scored tries and set them up as well showing his wide range of skills.
The Dragons and the Knights both recorded important wins with the Dragons beating the Titans by 1 point - 19 18. The Knights were too good for a brave Cowboys side with the Knights winning 36 28 as Beau Scott once again gave Jonathan Thurston nightmares after State of Origin
