The Black Caps played South Africa in the first semi final of the World Cup and both sides put on a great show. The Black Caps won thanks to Grant Elliott who hit a massive six off the second to last ball when the Black Caps needed five more runs to win.
South Africa batted first and because it rained during their innings, their score was slightly changed. They set the Black Caps a target of 298 runs from 43 overs, both Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers scored 50's along with David Miller who smashed 49 off 18 balls. The Black Caps bowlers had a tough day, Trent Boult picked up two wickets and Corey Anderson picked up three wickets but is was the South African batsmen who dominated.
It was the Black Caps turn to bat and captain Brendon McCullum knew that they had to get off to a good start. Despite South Africa having some of the world's best bowlers, McCullum was still able to bat like he has done throughout this World Cup. He smacked 59 off 26 deliveries, but once he was out the Black Caps had to work hard to not collapse.
Kane Williamson didn't make many runs before he was out and both Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor also got out which meant that Grant Elliott and Corey Anderson had to step up. They did exactly that with Anderson scoring 57 and Elliott who scored the winning runs finishing with 84.
South Africa had a few chances to get Anderson and Elliott out but couldn't, which allow the kiwis to get closer and closer to the target. Elliott hit a big six to win the game and everyone in Eden Park went nuts, the Black Caps had made the final.
Australia play India tomorrow in the other semi final. Who will play the Black Caps on Sunday? Hopefully the Black Caps can continue their great run!
