Alright, clearly Super Rugby is really important.
In week one, the Blues were still dormant.
Damien McKenzie was a gun for the chiefs as they gave the Blues a touch up, but he's now on the bench thanks to the return of Aaron Cruden. So the Chiefs have depth at first five, screw Dan Carter.
So I spent a few days hating on Sonny Bill Williams, but thankfully it was only a few days and was mainly thanks to the circus around him. He's still good at running at people with an oval ball in his mits.
I'll never tire of seeing the Crusaders not be so good at this rugby thing. The Highlanders are back in action, in the battle of the south. Wouldn't it be awesome to see a few Highlanders get dirty with Richie McCaw!? We're sitting here, admiring the view from the moral high ground - don't touch Lord Richie there mate, but this would be taken to a whole new level if it was one of our own.
Will the Highlanders be any good? Well that's beyond my jurisdiction here at the Niche Cache, but it looks like Malakai Fekitoa has re-signed with the NZRU ... but he plays for the Highlanders, I don't get it?
Ma'a Nonu, bless him. He's shifted south from the mighty Auckland Blues back to Wellington and he gets his first hit out against some South Africans, in South Africa. Beauty. But we should keep our expectations of Nonu at a reasonable level, which isn't too difficult as a Blues fan.
Those Aussies aye, thought they were good at rugby. Listen, you can't be good at rugby signing all these guys from other sports like Karmichael Hunt, unless he's like SBW.
Seeing the Waratahs, the Super Rugby champions fail miserably in their opening encounter only confirm my genius - we're the best at rugby. Apparently coach Michael Cheika took the blame for the loss to the Western Force, apparently the players didn't like it because he's such a great guy who works so hard for his players.
Will they be so cute when the coach cops the blame and is given the flick for a terrible season? Or will they be chuffed that they still have a job?
Thankfully Adam Thomson is across the ditch to provide some common kiwi sense to these Aussies. His Queensland Reds had a can of whoop ass opened on them by the ACT Brumbies, by Thomson's not having a bar of it. Stay calm he says, stay calm and wait until Thomson's back on the field this week against the Force.
This week I'm going to tell the kids to piss off to watch the Highlanders vs Crusaders. Don't blame me if Richie gets hurt. I'll head up to the pub to sink a few and watch the Chiefs vs Brumbies, that Cruden bloke is far too irresponsible to play Super Rugby though.
