On an overcast Sunday, with cheeky 1m swells easing their way on to Manu Bay's rocks, Maz Quinn and Ella Williams took out the Rip Curl Pro in Raglan.

Quinn won the final, beating local Billy Stairmand, Gisborne's Chris Malone and Elliot Paerata-Reid from Piha. The final saw Quinn and Paerata-Reid both finish with scores of 13.77, with Quinn crowned the champ as he had the highest individual wave score of 6.93.

What's super funky about that is Quinn's standing as the OG of kiwi surfing while Paerata-Reid is the up and comer, fresh of a victory in the Under-20s division.

Quinn now holds a nice lead in the New Zealand Pro Series

In the women's division, Williams beat Raiha Ensor, Elin Tawahru and Paige Hareb rather convincingly with a total score of 16.3. Next best was Ensor with 13.2 while Hareb finished with a disappointing 10.7.

The men's Pro Series top-five is...

1) Maz Quinn (Gis) - 2,105

3) Billy Stairmand (Rag) - 2,000
4) Luke Hughes (Rag) - 1,720
