The Corona South Island Surfing Championships went down in Dunedin over the weekend at St Clair beach. Local lad JC Susan and Britt Kindred from Muriwai won their respective open men's and women's categories, on a weekend in which there were 13 different champions.

Susan's local spot is St Clair and he beat Maz Quinn in the final with Quinn being a veteran of the sport and the numero uno seed, handing Susan is second South Island Champs title
Susan scored 14.40, Quinn scored 13.67 while Dunedin's Luke Murphy and Christchurch's Hugh Ritchie rounded out the final in 3rd and 4th.

In the open women's final, Kindred scored 12.8 to beat Hayley Coakes from Dunedin who scored 9.9 while Billie  Scott from Whangarei and Shani Ayson from Dunedin finished in 3rd and 4th.

Kindred also won the Under 20 Girls title as well, beating Scott and Ayson in that final while there was also another double in the Under 20 and Under 17 boys category with Dunedin's Elliott Brown winning both.

We kinda pigeon-hole surfing as a sport that only goes down in certain North Island hot-spots but four of the eight finalists in the open divisions were from Dunedin, five if you include Ritchie from Christchurch.
