Hard & Fast: No Alex Jones For Wellington Phoenix :(
Why oh why are New Zealand Football so silly?
Their sillyness has been costly in the past.
But as it was national teams and national players who felt the wrath of that sillyness, their sillyness was somewhat acceptable.
(not acceptable at all)
NZ Football's sillyness only impacted their teams, which was okay.
(not okay at all)
Now their sillyness has impacted a team who are on the brink, their future is up in the air and NZ Football's sillyness has seeped outside of their little cave that they exist in.
Unfortunately, FIFA decided that Alex Jones' transfer paperwork couldn't be accepted, not after NZ Football hadn't sent it in on time. Sure some of the blame could be laid on the Wellington Phoenix for doing all this on a long weekend, but it's hard not to feel your blood boiling when thinking about NZ Football's inability to support their only professional football team/do things right.
Unfortunate from FIFA but understandable as allowing the registration of Jones' transfer to go through would have set a dangerous precedent.
International football and the various leagues around the world could be shady, taking advantage of FIFA's leniency had they allowed this to all go through. Fair play on FIFA's behalf, we send a lot of shit FIFA's way for their shenanigans, but they've done the right thing here.
It's funny how FIFA upheld their rules and regulations to set the standard, to stop less organised leagues/clubs/national bodies getting ideas from this. Less organised than NZ Football? Hah!
Luckily for the Nix, this comes after a very impressive display against Western Sydney in which Blake Powell and Hamish Watson both looked like they could roll through the rest of the season as the two main strikers. Jones would have been a boost to have, however the Nix aren't left hanging and are in a decent position.
As for NZ Football? Well, they have completely lost the trust or any other good vibes from the Niche Cache. I say Niche Cache because I can't speak for y'all, I do however get the feeling that NZ Football has lost the trust and goodwill of the whole kiwi footballin' population.
There's only one outcome that would satisfy the kiwi footballin' population and that's blood, heads rolling ... I mean ownership, accountability and possibly resignations.
It's clear that NZ Football aren't the sharpest knife in the draw right now.
Which is a bummer because we need our leaders of football in Aotearoa to be doing a far better job.
