A Week In Hip Hop
I think it's fair to say that we should hail King Kendrick. The dude has dropped a classic that is probably the most powerful body of music that I've heard in my lifetime. Despite knowing that the album is pretty freaking awesome and thought provoking, we (me and the Wildcard) will give it a few more spins before we try put some words together about it.
I do encourage ya'll to listen to it though and be inspired to follow the leader. He's one of the leaders for our generation and all the silly old school ideals that seem to control society at this minute can easily be swept aside once our generation speaks our voice.
We can see how our generation thinks through their music and there's a host of hip hop artists, let alone all sorts of other young folk who think the same way. K-dot just managed to put it all together in the funkiest album to have graced my ears.
The last track has an intense moment with Tupac, here's the original interview well part 1 anyway. Don't be an internet dummy, the other 5 parts are alongside the interview on Youtube.
One of those really thought provoking songs was 'Complexion' which featured Rapsody. She explains how her and Kendrick linked up as well as explaining her verse with XXL.
Rapsody also dropped this video today and it's easy to see why she was one of a select few to drop a feature verse on To Pimp A Butterfly...
A$AP Ferg had a epic interview with NPR, which you can only listen to but in it he drops all sorts of wisdom. One of those gems is Ferg saying "Racism been over. It's the old people that keep holding on to it". I don't think I could say it any better and Ferg explores that idea and a whole lot more in about an hour's worth of audio that I strongly recommend you listen to.
Joey Bada$$ is another one of our generation's leaders and he explains a few songs...
Keep it in your pants...
Chance The Rapper has me keen to grace my ears with this project, The Social Experiment is a band that you definitely need to keep a look out for.
Nice wee interview here with J Cole, not sure about this Tavis Smiley dude or the budget studio but hey, we get to listen to J Cole...
You can never have too much Action Bronson, honestly, never ever
Complex did a sick little story with Steve Rifkind who was instrumental in the early stages of the Wu Tang Clan's career. Wisdom a plenty here
