The Other Warriors: Round Eight

Warriors move into Fourth with Four wins

Playing at a different time and location to their NRL and NYC counterparts, the NSW Cup Warriors recorded their fourth win in a row. They thumped the Newton Jets 48 - 12 in Sydney on Saturday.

The Warriors opened the game with full force scoring three tries before the 20 minute mark to take a 16 nil lead. There were no signs of slowing down as the Warriors put on another two tries before the break to take a commanding 28 - 6 lead into half time.

Despite the solid efforts in attack, ill discipline saw Sam Lousi sent from the field for a striking offense mid way through the second half. In addition to this Sam's brother Sione and Newton's Shannon Gallant were also sin binned for the same incident.

Despite the Warriors being reduced to 11 players for 10 minutes their onslaught of points continued with another 20 points before it was full time. You can't read too much into the game though, Newton had have only managed one win this season and had lost the game well before the final hooter went.

However, there were good signs for the Warriors franchise with was a sharp and fit looking Kevin Locke at full back as well as a more effective Carlos Tuimavave in the centers. Tui Lolohea was his electric self picking up a double and kicking five from seven.

Junior Warriors get closed out

The Juniors were unfortunately the only Warriors branded team to lose over the weekend. They went down 36 - 14 to the Junior Storm in what was initially a close affair at half time.

The Warriors sit sixth on the ladder with an even record of four wins and four losses with their points differential pushing them in front of four other teams (including the Storm) who have the same winning record thus far.

The game started fairly evenly with tries going to both teams, with Ken Maumalo dotting down out wide for the Warriors. Melbourne were next to get onto the board pushing their score up to 10. The Warriors responded through Solomone Kata to even the contest out once again at 10 a piece.

The return of Solomone Kata is big for the Warriors club

The Storm scored next and took the lead into the half time break. The Warriors had to be the next to score after half time, and Lafu Feagaiga answered the call to put the Junior Warriors behind by just two points at 16 - 14.

Unfortunately, that would be it for the Warriors scoresheet as they started to work against themselves. A penalty allowed the Storm's Cameron Munster to push their lead out to 18 - 14. A sin binning to captain Mason Lino after a professional foul did not help the Junior Warriors cause and eventually four more tries were added to the Storm's score.

The Warriors have a weekends rest due to the representative games, but return home next week to take on the Raiders at Eden Park on May 10. Hopefully, the weeks break will give them time to recover and refocus for a better result as the Raiders are one of the teams on the same competition points as the Warriors.
