Hard & Fast: The Weird Konrad Hurrell Situation

I love Hurrell so I don't really care where he goes, I'll enjoy his work regardless.

Things are weird regarding Konrad Hurrell's future, his immediate future.

For a while now, there have been whispers about Hurrell's future with the Warriors. Last year especially though it felt as if any rumours and speculation were due to Hurrell having very little leverage with his form as a player, shrewd management some would say.

It has been reported this week that Hurrell is close to a deal with the Gold Coast Titans, with a bit of paperwork holding the deal up.

Those who have reported this move are adamant it will take place.

The other side of coin has the likes of the Warriors and Hurrell's management rejecting such noise.

Who do we believe?

Well hey, we now get a sideshow as we get to see a battle between the credibility of rugby league media vs the word of Jim Doyle and our club.

The disparity between the two views is what makes this very weird. One side is adamant, one side is flat out denying it. Someone will be wrong, this is fun.

Hurrell was in the south-east Queensland area for the NRL All Stars game recently, perhaps he paid the Titans a visit then? They would have been impressed by how fit Hurrell looks and the Titans are certainly in the market for a talented centre having lost James Roberts, plus they've got a bit of cash to spend.

If the Titans are offering more than what Hurrell is on with the Warriors then it's hard to find fault with Hurrell making a move as he's not exactly a Warriors certainty each week.

I think a move to the Titans would do Hurrell good. We've seen many former Warriors beenfit from a new environment and it would take Hurrell out of his comfort zone, challenging the young centre to make the most of his potential.

The Warriors? Well the Warriors could see Hurrell as surplus to requirements and fair enough.

Any negativity in losing Hurrell will only really impact their reputation as the club couldn't get the best out of Hurrell, they have many options at centre though.

This would also mean that the Warriors have failed to extract everything out of Hurrell and Ngani Laumape, two former schoolboy rugby players who were lured to the Warriors via Under-20s football.

It's all just a bit weird. I don't know who to believe and I don't really care how this ends, I'm more interested in the show.

The first part of the show is seeing who is true and who is blatantly bullshitting us (media vs Warriors/Hurrell etc).

The second part of the show is how things pan out if Hurrell does or doesn't move. If he does move then we get to follow Hurrell as a Titan, if he doesn't move then we sit back, grab the popcorn and ride the Warriors rollercoaster.
