Kiwi (/Polynesian) NRL Stocks #1

Top Dawg Status led by Manu Ma'u.

Stocks Up

Manu Ma'u - Only three Eels players ran for over 100m against the Broncos and Ma'u was the only forward to do so. In a typically el beasto performance from Ma'u he ran for 125m off 15 carries, broke 5 tackles, made 33 tackles and squeezed out 5 offloads, plus he didn't miss any tackles. Good things happen for the Eels when Ma'u has the footy.

Alex Glenn - With Jordan Kahu taken off injured, Glenn moved to centre and showed his versatility as he played 80 minutes, ran for 136m off 17 carries, had an assists along with a tackle bust and an offload. Glenn rarely puts a poor performance on the board and must be one of Wayne Bennett's favourites.

Adam Blair - Only 40 minutes of footy for Blair, but he got through his usual dose of niggle, effort and offloads. Blair averaged 7.9m per carry with 4 offloads and made 21 tackles.

Peni Terepo - One of my low key favourites, Terepo is a handful. He played 39 minutes for the Eels and averaged 8.2m per carry, broke 2 tackles, made 30 tackles and got an offload out in only 39 minutes off the bench.

Steve Matai - Manly weren't overly flash against the Doggies however Matai was heavily involved as he tried to inspire his comrades. Matai took 12 carries for 109m, but it was more his intent and aggression that caught the eye.

Sam Kasiano - A try, 115m off 12 carries, 3 tackle busts, 16 tackles, an offload and a line break in only 38 minutes on the park for Kasiano. A great start to the season for a bloke who should always be one of the most dangerous forwards on the field, who can do a mean droppie.

Curtis Rona - Picking up where he left off last season, Rona scored a try that only he could with his long limbs and was also very busy around the park with 12 carries for 120m, 4 tackle busts and a line break. Rona carts the ball up like a forward and is also a try-scoring specialist, a rare combo.

Frank-Paul Nuuausala - Talk about efficiency, Frank-Paul the wrecking ball only played 33 minutes but stacked the box-score with 102m off only 8 carries along with 2 tackle busts, a line break and an offload.

Jeff Lima - In his first game for the Raiders, Lima impressed all coming off the bench. The Raiders got great value out of their middle forwards against the Panthers with Lima only playing 26 minutes but managing 12 carries in that short amount of time for 117m.

Iosia Soliola - After spending last season on the edge, Soliola moved to the middle and did a fine job in providing a rugged presence. 57 minutes, 12 carries for 97m, 3 tackle busts and 37 tackles ... only 3 tackles behind Canberra's tackling machine Shaun Fensom.

Peta Hiku - A try on his Panthers debut and a fine first up effort for Hiku as he ran for 119m, broke a tackle, got an offload out and had a line break. Not spectacular, just a typically solid display from the Kiwi international.

James Fisher-Harris - Debut! The Fish was a late call up to come off the bench for the Panthers and was heavily involved in 18 minutes, hopefully we see him get more game time this weekend.

Sauaso Sue - Low key beast alert, Sue played 50 minutes for the tigers and averaged 10m per carry over 12 carries. Throw in 2 tackle busts and 21 tackles and Sue was part of a Tigers forward pack that put their Warriors opponents in the shade.

Josh Aloiai - Debut! Young Aloiai was part of that Tigers forward pack in a solid NRL debut for the Glenora Bears junior.

James Gavet - This week is all about effieciency in production and the Gavet served it up for the Warriors with 138m from 14 carries in only 38 minutes along wtih 2 tackle busts. Compare that to Jacob Lillyman's 51m off 7 carries in 40 minutes and yeah, Gavet was good.

Shaun Johnson - We had better get used to these games from SJ6 as he had a hand in everything for the Warriors and led their comeback.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck - No one would say that Tuivasa-Sheck was 'impressive' against the Tigers, however he did run for 200m off 13 carries, broke 5 tackles and was very busy with 21 touches (James Tedesco had 14). A decent start for Mr 200 metres.

Jason Taumalolo - Like Tuivasa-Sheck, Taumalolo operates at a level about the rest of our kiwis and he easily got through 188m carting the ball up in 48 minutes.

Shaun Kenny-Dowall - Bouncing back from his court dramas, SKD had a rather phenomenal game against the Rabbits with 10 tackle busts.

Siosiua Taukeiaho - I told y'all that you must watch Taukeiaho any chance you get. 151m off 14 carries in 39 minutes with 2 tackle busts, that's 10.78m per carry.

Bryson Goodwin - Another super solid display from Goodwin as he ran for 135m, broke 8 tackles and got 2 offloads out to go with a try.

Agnatius Paasi - I must confess, Paasi is my favourite NRL player. After an exception NRL Nines, Paasi ran for 180m off 18 carries in 42 minutes, broke 6 tackles and scored a try as he continues to breakout as a key forward for the Titans.

Leivaha Pulu - Debut! Solid, not spectacular for Pulu as he played 22 minutes off the bench for the Titans.

Jesse Bromwich - Get used to these sorts of numbers from the best prop in the game: 68 minutes, 15 carries, 156m, 34 tackles and 2 offloads. That's a quiet game.

Tohu Harris - Rolling through 80 minutes on the edge, Harris ran for 121m off 16 carries, broke 2 tackles and made 33 tackles. Harris is the sort of player that Craig Bellamy would love, especially with the new interchange rules.

Kenny Bromwich - A try and 3 tackle busts in 32 minutes for the young Bromwich, more importantly he looked as though he is eager to make 2016 the year of his breakout.

Jason Nightingale - A try and 131m for Nightingale who somehow broke 6 tackles, that's why Nightingale is an OG of the Kiwis. Keep an eye on his left-to-right pass as well, it's fire.

Leeson Ah Mau - After being a bit of a journeyman, Ah Mau has settled down with the Dragons very nicely and continues to put up great numbers. 125m off 15 carries in only 44 minutes will go down well anywhere.

Russell Packer - He's back! And he came back with a fine game agains the Storm, running for 111 in 52 minutes along with 31 tackles.

Siliva Havili - Those who don't like the Warriors will enjoy this one as Havili got his Dragons career off to a slick start, yet another former Warrior doing good at another club. Havili came off the bench for 23 minutes and offered crisp service but more important than that was his running game where he ran 5 times for 51m, offering a powerful dummy-half option to give Mitch Rein a break.

Stocks Down

Jordan Kahu - After scoring a try and showcasing his class in only 33 minutes of action, Kahu left the field with a quadriceps injury. Unfortunate for Kahu as he would have been looking to make the most of Jack Reed's absence.

Martin Taupau - A slow start for one of Manly's key recruits with Taupau only managing 8.5m per carry in 62 minutes and he missed 3 tackles.

Sam McKendry - As has often been the case over the past few seasons, McKendry is up and down with his production. This week he only got 29 minutes and hopefully we see McKendry enjoy a bit more consistency this season.

Ben Henry - Another season, another season-ending knee injury :(

Issac Luke - Brought across the ditch to be the dynamic ball-runner that he was with the Rabbitohs, Luke ran the ball 3 times for 22m. That's not what the Warriors want or need, nor were his 3 missed tackles in the middle of the field.

Issac Liu - Now a Kiwi international, Liu didn't quite perform as such with 39m off 8 carries in 32 minutes of footy.

Zane Musgrove - Debut! But also a wrist injury that will see the big Rabbitohs forward sit on the sidelines for a while.
