Diary Of An Aotearoa Warriors Fan: 2018 Depth Chart
OMG Simon we gotchu.
Based strictly off of the Warriors website, I've put together a depth chart organised by position. There are few important notes to understand before sliding down the depth chart, led by me not putting players into two positions. Someone like David Fusitu'a could be an option at centre, wing and fullback, ahead of some of the other players in that position but for ease of use, I've kept it as simple as possible and based on what position I think the player will play next season.
This has come straight from the Warriors team tab on their website, which lists 39 players. Clubs have 30 contracts that go towards the NRL salary cap (top 30) and can then hand out six development contracts (minimum of three) worth $60,000 to players, which I imagine is between a part-time reserve grade contract and NRL contract. For example, Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck would have been signed on a reserve grade contract but has his job with the Warriors to bolster his salary and I suspect a player like Hayze Perham is on a development contract. Perham may even struggle to play reserve grade, but he will operate as a professional athlete and this will boost his development.
39 players on the website, 39 players in this depth chart, while 36 go towards the salary cap. Trying to suss out who is on what contracts etc is difficult based on 39 players named on the Warriors website and in general, given the lack of transparency in NRL salary cap stuff, trying to suss out anything salary cap/contract related in the NRL is a mission (hence there is such thing as salary cap drama which doesn't happen in other salary cap leagues such as the NBA).
Some players from the 39 listed will be on part time deals and some will be on the development contracts; I reckon Perham, Chanel Harris-Tavita, Lewis Soosemea, Junior Pauga and Joe Vuna will have development contracts. The Warriors may have players in their under 20s set up who are on development deals, they may not have used the full six development spots or King Vuniyawaja could be the sixth development joker.
Players are ranked in each position also.
