A-League Week 5 with Ze Phibber

This week was the 5th round of the 2014/15 season of the Hyundai A League, can you believe that we have had 5 weeks already? Time is flying, it slightly freaks me out a bit that when I go shopping now everywhere is playing christmas tunes and the whole store is decked out in red, white and green, how is it this time of year already? Any way tis the season to be jolly, and boy am I jolly do you know why? No? I'll tell ya! Cos the good old Phoenix managed to get up over the Western Sydney Wankers, oh I mean Wanderers.

The Phoenix and Wanderers were the opening game of week 5, and a lone, late goal to my main man Nate dog (Nathan) Burns was all that it took for the Phoenix to take down the Asian Champions. Both teams had their fair share of chances, and dare I say it the Phoenix actually looked the better side! They created a lot of opportunities and played some good football. Only negative to take out of the game is that they really need to work on their finishing, it's a good effort getting 12 shots off but you need to make more count. Also slightly disappointing that Mikey McGlinchey was unable to convert from the spot, however I don't think he deserved to be awarded the pen in the first place. Any way they truly did rise up from ashes that was last week and come away with a great result.

The second game of the week was between Sydney FC and Adelaide United. This was the first nil all stalemate of the 2014/15 season. Although there were no goals the match was still a tasty game with a lot of excitement, both teams came so close so many times to breaking the deadlock but it appeared that the match was destined to end nil all with neither team being able to find the back of the net. Adelaide definitely put it to the sky blues and looked to be the better team, however like their blue counterparts they were unable to make the vast amount of opportunities count. Just quickly want to touch on the disallowed goal, did Petkovic ask for ten? If not then he should not have had to wait for the referee to blow his whistle, and the goal should have counted. If he asked for ten then the ref was right to disallow the goal. This is one of the only 0-0 games that I was actually pretty stoked with, the game had so much action and so much excitement which would have no doubt kept all the fans on there toes.

The Newcastle Jets and the Melbourne Victory faced off for the third game of the week, which ended in a another draw, this time with both teams grabbing 2 goals a piece. Jaliens, Griffiths (New), Khalfallah and Bersart Berisha (Mel) managed to get on the score sheet. I feel for the Jets, coming off 4 straight losses, first home game, up 2-0 early on, only to let the game slip away and end up with a 2-2 draw. The Jets really only have themselves to blame for the game ending the way it did. They started off so strong and were looking dominant. Sadly due to some terrible defending they were able to let Melbourne grab a goal back which switched the momentum towards Melbourne and allowed them to gain a sniff. A sniff which definitely sparked the team into life and were almost able to steal all three points. I I think we will need to be on suicide watch for the Newcastle fans this week. On an awesome note the commentators referred to Berisha as the ultimate predator, I like this so much, cos that is exactly what comes to mind when not only I see him, but with how he plays. He is a creepy creepy predator, "hide yo kids, hide yo wife".

Brisbane continued their horror start to the season going down 3-1 to Melbourne City with goals to David WIlliams (Mel), Dusandzic (Mel), Brandon Borello (Bri) and Marino (Mel). Brisbane straight up lost this game in the first ten minutes. They failed to turn up to the start of the match and as a result saw themselves down buy two goals. Once they finally realised that they were playing a game of football they looked really dangerous and we saw patches of the championship team that we know they are. They looked really dangerous on attack and had bucket loads of possession 64% in fact, but were unable to convert any of it into goals until late in the second half, and the goal they managed to get was so funny. A miss hit shot which rebounded off the head of Borello and into the net. The commentators tried to claim that he did it on purpose, I think not. It looks as though Brisbane are really low on confidence at the moment and they need to get a win under their belt shortly if they are to have any chance of salvaging this season.

The final game of the week was between The Central Coast Mariners and The Perth Glory. and thanks to a pinger of a free kick from Marinkovic Perth were able to take out the match 1-0.

Not only was a it a game winning goal, but it was also the Phibber's goal of the week. Absolute pearler of a free kick, to be 25 yards out and pick your spot so well is a true talent to have, world class goal. Perth are looking really dangerous at the moment, especially with Irishman Andy Keogh upfront. Keogh is a top notch player and creates a whole heap of chances for the Glory. Now not only did Perth receive the goal of the week, they also received the knob of the week with Rostyn Griffiths missing an absolute sitter off a set peice. It almost looked as though for a minute he forgot that he was supposed to be attacking the goal, classic miss.

Any way that concludes this week's Hyundai A-League action. With both Sydney and the Victory not managing to gather 3 points this week we have seen the leaderboard tighten up like homophobe at a gay bar. Perth Glory have managed to sneak up the backside and are now sitting in first place and the Nix are sitting in a very snuggle position smack bum I mean bam in the middle. I am definitely looking forward to next weeks fixtures,up the Nix!
