Te Atiawa Win 2016 Aotearoa Surfing Title's Clash of the Iwi

With Zhana Hutchieson winning the Open Women's and Under 18 Girls Divisions, Te Atiawa were crowned the best surfing Iwi at the 2016 Aotearoa Maori Surfing Titles in Waitara over the weekend.

Kehu Butler also did the double in taking out the Open Men's and Under 18 Boys Divisions, however the quality of depth from Te Atiawa's surfers gave them the title.

Hutchieson beat fellow Te Atiawa surfers Sophia Moore (2nd) and Jo Moore (4th) as the trio enjoyed their time on their local swell. Runee Ruddell from Te Rarawa finished 3rd in the Open Women's division, while Hutchieson beat two more Te Atiawa surfers to claim the Under 18 Girls Division. Brie Bennett from Ngati Hine finished 2nd, with Te Atiawa's Natasha Goldsbury and Kahana Ngaia finishing 3rd and 4th respectively.

Reppin' Ngai te Rangi, Kehu Butler battled with his father in the Open Men's final giving Ngai te Rangi two surfers in the men's final. Kehu won, while Khan finished 4th as Te Atiawa's Jayson Zimmerman claimed 3rd and Chris Malone Te Aitanga a Mahaki came 2nd.

In the Under 18 Boys final, Butler beat out Reef Mathews (2nd) from Te Aitawa, Lee Ririnui (3rd) from Ngati Ranginui and Thomas Norton (4th) from Ngati Wai. 

Jayden Willoughby from Nga Puhi won the Under 16 Boys final and the Under 14 Boys final.
