Lydia Ko Mixtape: September/October, 2020
Lydia Ko rolled through two tournaments in September and two more in October on the LPGA Tour, four tournaments all up with three top-20 finishes and two top-10 finishes. Ranked 13th in the Race To CME Globe and 14th in Official Prize-Money, Ko is among the busier players on the tour as she has played 10 tournaments this year and with four tournaments scheduled to finish this year there is an opportunity for Ko to climb up the rankings if she can register a bunch of top-10 finishes.
Over the last two months, Ko finished 6th at the ANA Inspiration, then tied-42nd at the Portland Classic, tied-18th at the Women's PGA Championship and then tied-8th at the Drive On Championship. As you'll see below, Ko's scoring average is hovering around 70 and she is trending in the right direction to get that average below 70.
Ko has a scoring average below 70 for four of her 10 tournaments, obviously the tournaments where Ko's near the top of the leaderboard. There's a nice split in Ko's scoring averages this year as she averaged 73+ in her first two tournaments and 72+ in three of her first five tournaments, then in Ko's next five tournaments she has averaged 71 or less in all five tournaments.
This time last year, Ko was ranked 36th in the Race To CME Globe and 48th in Official Prize-Money and that reflects Ko's massive leap forward in 2020. Ko is still playing with an extra 10m in her driving compared to last year and her driving distance has even increased a smidge throughout 2020. Initially, that had an impact on Ko's accuracy although Ko has matched a slight increase in driving distance throughout the year with minor improvements in her accuracy since the LPGA's return mid-year.
