The False 9 with Senor Spectre
And then there were three. So my beloved Arsenal are long gone but the fight up top goes on! Liverpool, City and Chelsea. All with their flaws and their strengths but they all play high quality football. Liverpool seems to be getting penalties every game and many people will cynically state that it's got to be diving and refs bias. However I've looked over the penalties and in all honesty a couple are marginal dives but more often than not they should be getting more penalties than they do! They attack in such a direct manner that it puts opposition defences in positions where they have to make quick decisions. When they get it wrong, Liverpool prospers. And having Stevie G sinking each penalty at his will, they are accumulating the goals effectively. Liverpool have a huge game this weekend against Manchester City, where they will need as much ‘luck’ as possible.
Liverpool vs Man City:
Liverpool are on such a roll right now, winning 9 EPL matches on the trot. It would be a breath of fresh air if Liverpool win the title because it will be anyone other than the big spending kids, Chelsea and City. They are playing such attractive football which is pleasant too see. Defence wins championships... I’ve said it a few times but they are proving it wrong week in week out. How do you defend Liverpool? High line and Suarez and Sturridge have the time of their life running off the shoulder off the centre backs... Play deep and Philip Coutinho controls the game in the pocket in front of the midfield. If I was Pellegrini I would be having nightmares about watching Demicheles defending the SAS strike force.
Vincent Kompamy is going to be huge in this game. The leader and best defender City have will once again have to be at his best. It's not just his own role either, his communication and leading of the other defenders will be huge! The experienced heads of Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy will be crucial. Avoid defeat and they will be front runners for the title... Lose and Liverpool are in front and away. Will experience in these situations count for a lot?? I reckon it will. Liverpool know they have to come out and take it to City. And let’s be honest they are more than capable of doing that. But can they dominate and have the defensive steel to combat City if it gets close. I’m not sure they can.
Prediction: I can see City scoring first and making Liverpool chase, which they won’t be used to at all. Liverpool will have their period of dominance where they will undoubtedly score. The game will end up a stalemate, with City the happier of the teams. 1-1.
