Domestic Daily - Bowling Paradise

Game Sitch

  • The Otago Volts took the bickies against Canterbury, thanks to an impressive effort from Neil Wagner and his apprentice Jacob Duffy. Wagnut picked up 5 wickets in the first dig with 2 in the second while Duffy chipped in with 1 and 3. That helped dismiss the Cantabs for 210, to which the Volts replied with a scratchy 139 which was enough for a 299 run lead. Canterbury fell short, but Neil Broom and Henry Nicholls fought hard chipping in with 58 and 59 respectively.
  • The Northern District Knights rolled the Wellington Firebirds, not once but twice to get an easy win. After Tim Southee and Trent Boult did the damage in the first innings, they were at it again bowling Wellington out for 58. Southee got 4, while Boult, Ish Sodhi and Graeme Aldridge picked up 2 each. Wellington were chasing 454, better luck nek time.
  • The Auckland Aces put in a pretty similar poor performance with the willow, chasing 376 for the win against Central Districts. They were rolled for 130 with Doug Bracewell and Ben Wheeler repeating their first innings effort for the Stags.

Get That Man A Mean Feed

  • Doug Bracewell and Ben Wheeler (6 wickets each) might as well live out of each other's pocket as they're going to be dining out together a fair bit. Their efforts with the ball gave the Stags the win, so a hefty steak with some mash potato will go down nicely. Mix some cheese in to that mash as well, the deserve it.
  • Hopefully Neil Wagner's not around, because his 7 wicket effort has reminded Black Cap selectors of his existence. He won't be dining with Dougie though, they're competing for that Black Cap spot, but Wagner deserves a bit of grilled salmon, with some dill.
  • His batsmen suck, but Matt Quinn picked up 8 wickets against the Stags so he can pop in Merc's in Auckland and get whatever he likes.
  • The Knights squad, probably should have a big old serve of BBQ Pork on rice. Top effort, if you're a Black Cap, it's your shout.

Observations From The Observatory

  • The Stags, Firebirds and Aces seem to have pretty volatile batting line ups. They look pretty good, but they can implode at any time.
  • 76 from Darryl Mitchell helped the Knights set a decent total for the Firebirds to chase, he's been a bit quiet so far this season so keep an eye if this triggers a bit of form.
  • Excluding the certified Black Caps - Southee and Boult, we've got some interesting performances from the domestic bowlers. Bracewell and Wager are next in line, while Quinn continues to impress. If he keeps performing, things could get interesting.
