Black Caps Black Book .../Diary - December 4
Alright, enough of the boring test match cricket, it's time for some of that 20 over stuff! The Black Caps play the first of their two T20 matches tonight before playing a few ODI's in what will make for an interesting wee period of coloured clothing cricket.
With no Brendon McCullum, Tim Southee or Trent Boult we get to see our next tier of pace bowlers especially, they get another opportunity to impress. Just on those three lads returning home for a bit of a break - nothing wrong with that, there's no real reason to have them play some more cricket and keep their tour going. While there is a bit of a drop from Southee and Boult to the guys next in line, the likes of Mitchell McGlenaghan and Adam Milne simply need to play.
Mitch and Milne thoroughly deserve their spots and hopefully we see them rip and tear. I'm pretty darn interested to see how they go, Mitch McG seems to take wickets where ever he is while Milne ... Mr Milne. We seem fascinated that he can bowl fast, like he's a magical being or something but truth be told many international batsmen have faced quick bowling before (funny that). I'm not as high on Milne as others apparently are, but it's an opportunity for him to showcase his skill, not his speed.
With the bat, I'm looking forward to Guppy! Martin Guptill should be one of our best limited overs batsmen, but he's had a weird old time recently. He's in decent form and these T20's should give him a good opportunity to bat freely before the ODI's where he'll probably revert back to his slow and steady mantra.
Many cricket playing nations around the world opt for largely different squads between the formats, but I think Mike Hesson has got the right mix. Guys that are currently limited overs specialists, such as Mitch McG are bloody good at it same with Nathan McCullum. But there's also enough quality to have our two best batsmen leading the way, good times.
May we all file in to line behind Prince Kane.
