Domestic Daily - We've Got Runs

Game Sitch

  • The Otago Volts successfully chased down 308 set by the Northern Districts Knights, with their top order doing the job. It was a slightly different case for the Knights as Daryl Mitchell continued his nice run of form with 100 off 98 balls with help from Dean Brownlie (66) and Mitchell Santner (45). Neil Wagner returned to the Volts, but it was young new ball partner Jacob Duffy who impressed as he picked up 4 wickets, as well as being tonked around. The Volts took care of business late in the chase, but the hard work was done up front thanks to 64 from Aaron Redmond, 93 from Sam Wells and 83 from Michael Bracewell - their top 3.
  • Once again there were plenty of runs scored in the first dig between Canterbury and Auckland, with the lads from down south notching 335. Henry Nicholls and Todd Astle both hit 80's while Neil Broom and Andrew Ellis chipped in with half centuries. The Aces managed 270, but no one really went big which was the problem while wickets were shared by the Cantab bowlers.
  • Wellington worked their way to 255 thanks to half centuries from Michael Pollard and Stephen Murdoch, as Adam Milne and George Worker both picked up 3 wickets for Central Districts. The Stags chased it down with Will Young not out on 97 and half centuries to Ben Smith and Jamie How. Brent Arnel was the only wicket taker for the Firebirds with 4/38 off 10 overs.

That Man Deserves A Mean Feed

  • Daryl Mitchell mate, pop in to the servo, get yourself a pie and a sausage roll and get back at it. Keeping stacking the runs.
  • Jacob Duffy and the Volts top 3 should got throw some beef in the slow cooker, sit back and let that thing simmer while they sink a few brews.
  • George Worker deserves a munch for his solid 7 overs, but he'll have to wait in line at KFC behind Brent Arnel. Top performance from the veteran.
  • Will Young, whatever you eat won't be as good as a century.

Observations From The Observatory

  • Both Duffy and Bracewell from Otago deserve your attention as Duffy has logged wicket tallies of 3, 1, 5, 4 recently and Bracewell has hit 83 and 98. Mike Hesson and B-Mac are both Otago reps, so they could ya know, nudge nudge wink wink.
  • Very solid performance from Adam Milne with 3 wickets off his 10 overs at 4.60 runs an over. He continues to perform and I think he's sneaking ahead of Big Mitch and Matt Henry.
  • Will Young will be keen to not only keep his flow of runs going but get a biggun' after finishing 3 runs short despite being not out. His last 3 scores in the Ford Trophy have been 65, 36 and 97* which is pretty handy from a youngster.
  • The Auckland Aces are in the box seat at the top of the table of 15 points with the Stags and Volts behind them on 13. It'll be interesting to see if the Aces can get back on the horse after a loss and perform how they have been in the early stages of the tournament.
