BLACKCAPS Hostin Sri Lanka - Second Test. H-Town. Day One.

Yeah gimme some lovin' Tim

Days like these are one of a few reasons why we love Test cricket.

I mean, the day started with a tinge of green. We saw the BLACKCAPS batsmen enjoy ups and downs, downs thanks to some more aggressive/comfortable batting from Sri Lanka. A couple run outs and a competitive day's cricket, what more could you want?

Trent Boult and Tim Southee showed how dangerous a swing-bowling duo can be, duo being the key word there. Boult wasn't at his best early on, which was countered by Southee's double where he picked up both openers (ft. BJ Watling aka The Best Wicket-Keeper/Batsman In The World) and Boult returned later to send Milinda Siriwardana back to the sheds on 63 and Kithuruwan Vithanage followed soon after.

I got your back, you got mine. Together we swing.

The two run-outs showcased the sort of determination and concentration that is the complete opposite to what the West Indies displayed.

Sri Lanka will be filthy with those two run-outs as they would have been perfectly poised to make the most of a Seddon Park pitch that will flattened out - rain depending. Should Angelo Mathews improve on his 63* then Sri Lanka could rapidly find themselves close to a strong position, that will take 150 runs however.

It will take something special from Mathews and Sri Lanka's tail-enders to not give Tom Latham and Martin Guptill an opportunity at the crease. This will be very interesting as if Sri Lanka's batting is anything to go by we can expect a dangerous spell of bowling with the new-ball and the big challenge facing our openers is consistency.

Runs will be on offer in the afternoon if the sun's out so we need a tidy bowling effort. As we know however, tail-enders can be frustrating characters.
