Black Caps Black Book .../Diary - How You Feeling On Monday?
Monday huh?
It's early in the week, we play West Indies on Saturday and while I'm full of confidence, this is where the worry starts to creep in.
Why? Well can you predict what West Indian side is going to show up?
But that's the joy of quarter finals and it's why we thoroughly enjoyed pool play because we knew that on the other side of it came the real cricket. I don't know how I'm going to feel tomorrow but there's no need for the worry to outweigh the confidence that I have in the Black Caps.
While we have no idea what the West Indies will serve, we know plenty about our Black Caps.
We know that B-Mac will probably go bang, we know it might come off but we also know it's a risk.
We know that Guppy is there, we know that Guppy has come full circle and now plays the anchor role. Who would have thought this would be the case a few years back?
We know that between Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor we have at least one lad who can control the middle stages. Score runs, but do so wisely and set the platform.
Set the platform because we know we have power and two of the best finishers in the business. Luke Ronchi and Corey Anderson simply need a platform, foundations to be laid and bang goes the dynamite.
We know that Daniel Vettori is Gandalf, a wizard.
We know that if it's swinging, we've got two of the best swingers in Trent Boult and Tim Southee. We also know that if it's not swinging, they can build pressure and we know that B-Mac is going to help them take wickets with funky fields and plans.
We know that between Adam Milne and Corey Anderson we have suitable bowling options to switch things up. We know that Milne can combine pace with accuracy and can ruffle feathers.
But we don't know whether Chris Gayle will play. We don't know if Chris Gayle will show up and feel the vibes, we don't know nothing.
We don't know if Jerome Taylor and Jason Holder will show up.
We don't know if Marlon Samuels will flick the switch.
We don't know if Kemar Roach and Andre Russell will offer quality support with the ball, which they can do ... but we don't know.
We don't know if Dwayne Smith will look like an international batsman or a club battler.
We don't know if Darren Bravo will play, shit we don't even know if their two best batsmen against the UAE in Jonathan Carter and Johnson Charles will play.
We don't know much about the West Indies.
