White Ferns In Africa: 5-2 Winners

Celebrations in Africa

The White Ferns wrapped up their ODI series in South Africa with a comprehensive 126-run win, finishing the series 5-2. After a mediocre display with the bat in the previous ODI, the Ferns saw solid contributions from much of their batting line up and they also shared the wickets around in what was a great team effort.

Batting first, the Ferns hit 273/7 thanks to 81 from Katey Martin at No.4 which came on the back of 65* in the 6th ODI. Martin's runs were scored at a strike-rate of 112.50, with her 81 coming off just 72 balls thanks to 10 boundaries and she was supported by Amy Satterthwaite's 53 off 74 balls and 46 from Maddy Green which was her highest score through 10 ODI's.

Martin had struggled early in the series for runs, scoring a combined 24 runs in the first four games before finishing strong with two half-centuries.

Chasing 274 for victory, SA were dismissed for 147 in 45.5 overs thanks largely to 3/18 off 10 overs from Erin Bermingham. Lea Tahuhu took 2/36, Hannah Rowe took 1/31, Thamsyn Newton took 1/19 and Satterthwaite took 2/15 off 4.5 overs, however the work of Bermingham catches the eye as she rounded off the series with 7 wickets in the last 3 games.

Having already won the series, this game was all about whether Satterthwaite could finish the series with the most runs and wickets. In an extraordinary achievement, Satterthwaite did just that as she scored just over a hundred runs more than SA's Mignon du Preez and took 11 wickets which had her tied with SA's Ayabonga Khaka with Satterthwaite owning a far superior average and economy rate.

Satterthwaite hit three half-centuries with the bat and averaged 68.80 via a strike-rate of 85.57, with 44 boundaries while no other batswomen hit more than 30 boundaries. Her 11 wickets came at an average of 15.72 and Satterthwaite only conceded 2.94rpo.

Here's Satterthwaite's series...

19, 1/10
47, 0/24
1/45, 89*
3/33, 81*
42, 0/26
