Kiwi County Tour #15

On ya bike Kumar

Two Wellingtonians keep holding it down for the Kiwi County Tour with James Franklin and Jeetan Patel both contributing strongly with different results for their respective Counties. We're still looking for Neil Broom to fire up though, we've been waiting for quite some time now. Broom's still keeping us giggling on tour though and he's been getting a few batting tips from Jeetz so expect some runs from Broom's bat soon enough.

Middlesex vs Durham

Lord's is currently James Franklin's turf as the skipper of Middlesex and with Franklin leading by example, Middlesex dismantled Durham and snatched a win by an innings and 80 runs. Durham were first up with the bat and 3/26 off 12 overs from Franklin helped Middlesex dismiss Durham for 204, Franklin sent both Durham openers back to the sheds in the space of a few overs.

After two of his top order batsmen hit centuries (one was sometimes England batsman Nick Compton), Franklin came in at No.7 and ensured that the pain wasn't over for Durham. Frankin hit 56* off 85 balls and took Middlesex over 400 and then 500 runs, giving them a big lead that was too much for Durham. Franklin again chipped in with a wicket, getting Scott Borthwick trapped lbw which would have been nice for Franklin as Borthwick spent time with Wellington last summer and is one of County cricket's best non-international batsmen.
Durham were all out for 252, with Middlesex only needing to bat once to win.

James Franklin: 3/26 off 12, 56*, 1/21 off 6.

Derbyshire vs Essex

Anyone know where the runs are? Jeetz does but Neil Broom certainly doesn't and against Essex, Broom couldn't manage a wicket either. Essex batted first and only needed to bat once, hitting 530/9dec with Broom bowling 4 overs for 21 runs before he hit 31 with Derbyshire rolled for 165 off 65 overs.

Broom was then bowled by Ravi Bopara for 13 as Derbyshire followed on and were unable to push this game further, all out for 303, gifting Essex the win.

There have been a few handy scores in limited overs stuff for Broom, but in his last three County games he's scored: 9, 3, 30, 1, 31 and 13.

Neil Broom: 0/21 off 4, 31, 13.

Gloucestershire vs Sussex

It was a similar story for Hamish Marshall and Gloucestershire, they were beaten by Sussex with Marshall unable to contribute with the bat. Gloucs batted first and Marshall hit 6 at No.5 as Gloucs were dismissed for 367 before Sussex went on to smack 527 and take control of the game.

Gloucs needed a big second innings to get back in the mix, instead they were rolled for 158 in 54 overs with Marshall the second top-scorer on 23.

Hamish Marshall: 6, 23.

Warwickshire vs Surrey

Jeetan Patel tried his best to tame Surrey, but Warwickshire's batting wasn't quite at the same level as the tweakers of Jeetz. With Surrey batting first, Jeetz took 4/58 off 26 overs including the wicket of Kumar Sangakkara in a spell that saw Jeetz dismiss Surrey's first three batsmen and Surrey were all out for 252.

Surrey kept a lead though as they dismissed Warks for 247, headlined by a sound knock from Jeetz, blazing 29 off 30 balls including 6 boundaries. A few runs ahead, Surrey then went on to set Warwickshire a target of 396 as they were dismissed for 390 with Jeetz again featuring with multiple wickets. This time Jeetz took 3/126 off 36.3 overs which was more than 10 overs more than any other Warwickshire bowler and Patel again reached double figures with the bat, hitting 16 off 20. Unfortunately, Warwickshire were dismissed for 169 and Surrey won ... but Jeetz took 7 wickets and scored 45 runs!

Jeetan Patel: 4/58 off 26, 29, 3/126 off 36.3, 16.

Jeetz stormed to the top of the Division One wicket-takers list and now has 48 wickets, basically assuring us that he'll take 50 wickets once again. This is helped by Jeetz bowling almost 50 overs more than anyone else in Division One, but that hasn't impacted his average or economy rate as his average of 25.89 and 2.70rpo are the lowest of anyone with over 35 wickets.

I've got Jeetz ranked as the 2nd best bowler in County cricket, across both Divisions. Graham Napier has 51 wickets at 23.68/3.20rpo in Division Two which puts him at the top of the list right now, while Joe Leach also has 48 wickets at 27.54/3.55rpo

Jeetz is the No.1 spinner though fo-sho, once again.
