Kiwi County Tour: Matt Henry Loves Wickets
Matt Henry continues to gather wickets on the Kiwi County Tour, but not as many as his former Canterbury comrade Will Williams. Both played key roles in wins for Somerset and Lancashire, with Daryl Mitchell also playing in Lancashire's win over Surrey who had Tom Latham playing his second County Championship game of the winter.
The Aotearoa lads didn't score many runs in this wave of fixtures though. Latham put up scores of 10 and 0 for Surrey which takes him to 71 runs @ 17avg, while Mitchell had scores of 27 and 30 for Lancashire. Williams was the best batter of the KCT crew as his night-watcher promotion saw him score 61 runs and the 220 deliveries faced by Williams was the most of any batter in this game.
Williams also snared 3w @ 4rpo and 4w @ 2rpo for Lanashire in a comprehensive performance from the Cantab. Williams now has 26w @ 20.1avg/2.5rpo and his First-Class bowling average is sitting steady on 21.32 after 55 games. Williams hasn't played a T20 Blast game this winter but he does have at least a wicket in all seven of his 2nd 11 T20 games, part of 11 consecutive innings with a wicket.
Mitchell took 2w for Lancashire in the win over Surrey and he currently has 244 runs @ 48.8avg with 7w @ 20.8avg/3.6rpo. With 11w @ 19.6avg/8rpo in T20 Blast, Mitchell has taken a wicket in five consecutive innings. Mitchell is averaging around 20 with the ball in County Championship and T20 Blast, while also averaging 40+ in both competitions.
Mitchell has 392 runs @ 43.5avg/163sr in T20 Blast, ranked 13th for runs as the best performing kiwi in T20 Blast. With the ball, Mitchell is averaging between 23-31 in all formats below international cricket. Combined that with averaging 30+ in all three batting formats below international cricket for a sneaky excellent kiwi cricketer.
Henry is just as consistent across County Championship and T20 Blast. Henry took a 6-wicket baggy in the first innings (6w @ 2.9rpo) of Somerset's win over Nottinghamshire followed by 2w @ 2.3rpo in the second innings, also chiming in with 22* @ 200sr in Somerset's second batting effort.
With the bat, Henry has 122 runs @ 30.5avg/122sr in County Championship and 25 runs @ 12.5avg/156sr in T20 Blast. Henry's 18w @ 18.2avg/2.8rp with the ball is aligned with his T20 Blast mahi of 17w @ 15.9avg/8.2rpo. His consistent wicket-taking gives Henry a FC bowling average of 23.8 and a T20 bowling average of 26.4.
Speaking of T20 Blast, Mitchell Santner is in a groove for Worcestershire with 285 runs @ 31.6avg/149sr and 9w @ 30avg/7.5rpo. Keep this tucked away for the World Cup as Santner's batting will be useful in absorbing the loss of Michael Bracewell ahead of the World Cup. This also applies to Mitchellβs bowling.
Central lefty Ray Toole popped up in Durham's squad as a replacement for Ajaz Patel, but he didn't take a wicket in his first game. Henry Shipley hasn't been dismissed in three consecutive innings and has a solid batting record of 77 runs @ 77avg, while offering steady seam with 6w @ 46.8avg/3.6rpo. Shipley hasn't been dominant with the ball but has at least a wicket in three of his four innings bowled.
