2019 #KiwiWSL: Paige Hareb and Ricardo Christie Spark Up
With a kiwi on either side of the World Surf League in Ricardo Christie and Paige Hareb, we are adding the WSL into the Niche Cache rotation this year. The first stop is Australia's Gold Coast with the windows for both tournaments starting tomorrow and running to the 13th, with the kiwis definitely in the 'underdog' bracket of their respective tours.
For example, Hareb (#13) is in heat 3 and is listed as coming up against #1 ranked women's surfer Stephanie Gilmore from Australia. Hareb's heat is the only heat with two surfers, the rest have three and if a third surfer isn't added, this would be super niggly or Hareb to come up against Gilmore in the first event of the year.
Christie is in heat 9 on the men's side, along with Australia's Wade Carmichael (#9) and Brazil's Michael Rodrigues (#16). Well down in the pecking order, Christie (#29) has a slightly easier start to the tour on the surface. How the two kiwis perform on the Gold Coast will need to balanced between getting a gauge of their standing in the WSL landscape and knowing that they'll probably take time to suss out life on tour.
Here's all sorts of funky content that I could find from Christie and Hareb to enjoy now and set the scene for a lovely #KiwiWSL campaign...
