A Week In Hip Hop
It's been a pretty bumper week music wise, churning through a few albums to try get some thoughts written. The Underachievers album was awesome, so was the album from Dilated Peoples, but the one that took the cake was Statik Selektah's album 'What Goes Around'. It's hard to write any thoughts about it because Selektah's a DJ who's got a bunch of the best rappers on the tape, it's just straight up rhymes.
It's been my favourite to listen to, most of the rappers are from the Beast Coast and it feels like Selektah has been dropped on this earth to provide the masses with the best true blue hip hop he can. The roll call of rappers featured is - Joey Badass, Freddie Gibbs, Styles P, Talib Kweli, Action Bronson, Royce Da 5"9, Black Thought, Snoop Dogg, Dilated Peoples, Ab-Soul, Logic, CJ Fly, Nyck Caution, N.O.R.E, Termanology, Reks, Sheek Louch, Pharoahe Monch, Crooked I, Sean Price, B-Real, Dessy Hinds and Bun B ... plus a few more.
Part 3 of Noisey's A$AP Rocky doccy...
I posted the trailer for this a few weeks ago as well - The Field: Miami. Thanks to the folk at WorldStar Hip Hop, we get an up close and personal look at the real Miami, not Southbeach (as I learned). It's pretty awesome and is equal parts exploring Miami's hip hop culture as it is exploring Miami itself. Shout out to WorldStar for doing things like this.
And Talib Kweli, always one to fight against dumbness did his best with CNN this week. Kweli didn't quite agree with CNN's coverage of the Ferguson riots and it's fair to say he won't be doing too many more CNN interviews. It gets a little petty, but it's a laugh still
