A Week In Hip Hop

Oooooohweee we get this week's weekly wrap of hip hop stuff that isn't weak, with the film Dope. It's not a dope film, well it might be as I haven't been able to get a cheeky view but Dope debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, home of the film buff hipster and it looks like I'm going to have to do whatever it takes to have a watch. It has appearances from A$AP Rocky and Tyga, as well as West Coast youngins' Casey Veggies and Vince Staples. It also was produced by P Diddle I mean Puff Daddy or Diddy and Pharrell.

It's based on the West Coast, Inglewood to be precise and is set in a high school. That's about all I know, so until I watch it, just be dope.

Getting pretty exciting for Chance The Rapper's upcoming project with Donnie Trumpet and Chance's band The Social Experiment. I mean how much funk can you jam pack in to a project? The more the merrier for me.

No fucks given about Cash Money shenanigans. There's far too much good going on in hip hop to worry about Lil Wayne and Birdman, so if you're looking for the latest update go to TMZ or something.

Noisey continue to drop great content and their latest series gives you an insight in to life in Atlanta. The first two episodes zoned in on the trap life and Migos, while this episode looks at a few OG's.

Thomas continues his conversation with Coach K about the origin of trap music, beginning with Young Jeezy's 2004 mixtape, Tha Streets Iz Watchin (according to Coach). Both Coach and super producer Zaytoven-who rose to prominence alongside Gucci Mane-explain the explosion of the genre and eventual beef between Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane.

Shitballs, Killer Mike is the man.

Joey Bada$$ pretty much gives you all the background you need to understand his 'Curry Chicken' jam from his latest album B4.DA.$$. Pretty slick and how good does that curry chicken look!? Not sure about the waffles, but I'm always up to eat ya know.

To celebrate the release of his debut album, B4.Da.$$, rapper Joey Bada$$ heads to Brooklyn-based chicken-and-waffles joint Sweet Check to hang out with proprietor John Seymour. The duo decides to turn "Curry Chicken"-Joey's favorite childhood dish, and the title of one of his new songs-into a brand-new Sweet Chick dish.
