Curren$y - Pilot Talk III

The Scene

Curren$y is a New Orleans native who has been in the game for over a decade, first with No Limit Records which was followed by a stint on Cash Money/Young Money. Since around 2009, Spitta has found his niche as one of the most underground underground rappers in existence. He's constantly working, dropping mixtapes and albums which usually feature his love for cars and the herb. After starting Jet Life recordings, Curren$y has been one of the premier rappers that you don't know about, known for is low key rhymes which do nothing but prove that he is a 'audio drug dealer'.

The 'Pilot Talk' series of projects has seen Curren$y team up with Ski Beats for the majority of the production and the third installment is no different. 'Pilot Talk III' shows Curren$y is very much on his own grind, if you head on over to www.jetlifeapparel.com/ you can find the album in a USB package where you can get yourself a whole bunch of goodies along with the album. There's not many rappers who are this independent, only really Nipsey Hussle is in that category and Curren$y deserves plenty of respect, not only for his music but for the creative way his serving up his work.

The Vibe

It is essentially Curren$y in his prime. There's this Sunday vibe to all of the songs, the type of album which you can chuck on while you're chilling with the homies and let the whole album ride out. There's no need to to skip anything and if you really want to, listen intently to find pearls whether they be witty bars or knowledge. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that 'Pilot Talk III' is laid back, that's Curren$y's style but there's also an elegant touch to it. Slightly fine-arty ya know?

The Music

Ski Beatz has his mandatory place on a few tracks, seven to be exact. There's also Joey Fatts, Harry Fraud, Cool and Dre, Jahlil Beats and Edsclusive who all have their moments in the spotlight but dish out production that fits the overall bill. There's plenty of soulful, jazzy samples that keep things spicy which when combined with simple drums makes for production which Curren$y can drool all over. That also makes it one hell of an easy listen.

I stole home base while you was tying your laces
Your bitch gave out the dugout
Smoked out the clubhouse
Welcome to the majors - Pot Jar

Cranberry crepes to begin the day
Just another chance to fill the safe
Let us pray, if we pull it off and get away, smooth escape
And they stay fam for all our days, forever paid - Long As The Lord Say

Diamonds in my Rolex got me temporarily blind
Forgive me for that braggadoious line
I'm not so flashy with mine
But every now and again you gotta remind niggas that I'm really on the grind - Sidewalk Show

Every moment worthy of pictures
Each one worth a million
Shift gears like pulling the trigger
Killin' them niggas, Leave they head spinnin' - Lemonade Mimosas

They duplicate, we innovate sounds - SL 560

Eureka!

You can definitely be equally as successful without all the gimmicks, without the big record label and without all the trends.

I love walking with this in my ears, if it's not played on a Sunday, walk to this.

This shit is somehow incredibly motivating while being so mellow, just how I like it.

Finale

'Pilot Talk III' was great to listen to, but more importantly it will continue to be a great listen. It's the type of album that you can always come back to, no matter where you are or how far down the line you are, just whack this on and you'll have something to soothe your soul. Whether you're up at the top and you're feeling what Curren$y's spitting because that feels familiar or whether you're not where you want to be and you need a pep in your step, it shows the mark of Curren$y that he can provide for both of those situations.

It's just good music that's going to make you feel good whenever you give it a listen.
