Recorded live-off-the-floor in one day, “Give Us A Sign,” – which has already received airplay from CBC Radio One’s Here and Now – is loosely inspired by the first song Taylor learned to play and sing, Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.” The song is influenced by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, (an eight-track tape that was played endlessly while Taylor and his grandfather drove around the B.C. Lower Mainland, as he helped him make delivery calls), as well as the production sounds of STAX and Van Morrison. “Give Us A Sign” reflects the times we are living in and the lyrics are introspective, hopeful and even a little ironic.

Since first airing her angst-ridden brand of lo-fi indie last year, Pip Blom hasn’t been one to hang around. Four singles released in quick succession introduced her music to listeners far wider than her native Netherlands, with airplay across the likes of American radio station KCRW, BBC Radio One and 6 Music ensuring songs Pip had simply uploaded to the Internet hit hundreds of thousands of streams. Are We There Yet? followed, a three-track EP showcasing the 21-year-old musician’s art for subtle, yet effortlessly catchy melodies. Self-recorded, each track across the release occupies a different headspace and is packed with rough-edged charm; whetting the appetite for what may lie in wait for Pip’s debut full-length. ‘School’ and its flipside ‘Babies Are A Lie’ are next in a growing catalogue of notable releases.
