Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Strokes, Kings of Leon and The Libertines, Southampton-based The Manatees infuse relatable lyrics with driving rhythms and infectious melodies. Their previous single ‘What If’ received support from Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1), Steve Lamacq and Chris Hawkins (BBC 6 Music), John Kennedy (Radio X) and Spotify (‘Hot New Bands’, ‘Student Union’).
The Manatees latest single ‘Headstrong’, is an introspection of our society’s reaction to the world around us, particularly the media we are exposed to on a day-to-day basis that leaves us confused and apathetic. ‘Headstrong’ amalgamates 90’s garage rock guitar tones with a contemporary anthemic chorus in the vein of Catfish and The Bottlemen and The Vaccines. The track was mixed by former Spring King frontman, Tarek Musa, with the garage rock influences developed in his previous band and his skill set in production complimenting ‘Headstrong’ perfectly.
