The Panel
Standout Performer
Chief Biggums - James Graham is a beast. Powerful carries and stout defense (ran for 177 metres and 38 tackles). Not to mention a head clash which left the other guy dazed and confused while he carried on with the game - pure man-ness.
Mystery Doctor - Pat Richards is mine. The impact he's had on the NRL was epitomised by his performance against the Eels ... tough hit ups, class wing play, all the kicking skills and a 50m penalty.
The Bain - This week I am going to split it three ways. Just cos I feel like it. Matt Gillett. He was a monster on Friday night. Instrumental in the Broncos win. Jarryd Lee Hayne. He is unbelievable at times. Scores tries, sets them up and saves them too. Would've picked him but his brain explosion offload gave the Tigers their chance. Lastly, James Graham. He is a machine! Hit ups, metres, tackles. But he is like a third half as well providing solid ball play.
Senor Spectre - Jarryd Hayne for the Eels of course. His opening 20 minutes was blistering in which he was everywhere and scored 2 tries. Looks like the plane's taken flight…
Battler making his mark
Chief Biggums - Josh McGuire. He's been having a quiet season compared to what we've seen in the past but his performance over the easter weekend was good enough to put him into Origin contention I reckon. rampaging runs and solid shots on defense all game
Mystery Doctor - Paul Vaughan, forget Anthony Milford it's all about the Vaughan. What a try from a big bloke who is quietly going about his business in a very impressive manner.
The Bain - Jarrod Croker. Man of the match effort, he was all over Billy Slater. Kicked goals like a champ and that hail mary pass was fantastic. Solid as a rock on D!
Senor Spectre - Simon Mannering back to his simple yet effective game – make them tackles. Racked up 40 against the Dragons playing lock and looked the goods. Here’s hoping he stays there.
Biggest think you learnt
Chief Biggums - Karma is a mighty force. The Storm lose by a try after having one disallowed after winning the week before by an after hooter try. It was exhilarating to watch a forward jink in around defenders and sore a solo effort try like that, props to you Paul Vaughan
Mystery Doctor - The NRL is at it's best when the teams in Sydney's west are doing so well. Their fans are more passionate, they play exciting footy and they everyone just loves rugby league.
The Bain - Tigers are destined for the top 8, maybe even the top 4!!! What a win without so many crucial players.
Senor Spectre - Karma is a real thing. Ask the Storm.
Young gun watch
Chief Biggums - Mitch Rein. Put in a solid performance against the Warriors. Set up a couple tries, ran over 100m and notched 36 tackles. If he can build on the form he's in right now, wouldn't be surprised at a NSW bench call up.
Mystery Doctor - Tim Lafai has been on the scene for a while now and is fast earning a reputation as a class centre ... I mean would you rather him or Krisnan Inu at this stage?
The Bain - Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. That fancy footwork, the step, the hit and spin. Speed and power hes got it all. He is going to be one hell of a fullback when he gets his chance there.
Senor Spectre - Young McInness from the Rabbitohs played well with increased minutes on the weekend. Tackled bravely and did the little things well. Something Isaac Luke could learn from.
Most impressive team performance
Chief Biggums - Bulldogs. Honestly, if you can win three weeks in a row by one point it means you know how to fight to the bitter end and that's exactly what's summing up the Dogs right now. Crazy defense, enough know how to put points on the board and those clutch finishers.
Mystery Doctor - The Tigers. We celebrated how they have been playing and they showed that they are no fluke, putting in another top performance without some of their top players.
The Bain - Have to say the Tigers. No Farah, no Tedesco and no Fulton. Gavet gets injured mid game too. How could they win..? They certainly showed they have what it takes. Doggies close second with their come from behind one point victory over the Souths.
Senor Spectre - The Raiders fought valiantly and got the two points over the Storm. Normally they struggle verse the top teams but they showed they could dig in and get a result which is something new.
Team/player that needs a hug
Chief Biggums - Cowboys and Jonathan Thurston, the unluckiest bunch running round the NRL. Its just amazing that a ref's call can decide a game - but just sadder that more often than not it's the Cowboys getting the short end of the stick. The universe will even itself out eventually.
Mystery Doctor - Ah Kevin Proctor, Ryan Hoffman, Brian Norrie and Kenny Bromwich for all getting got by Paul Vaughan.
The Bain - The Cowboys. Boy are they doing it tough. Always get the rough calls every week. Also give those Bunnies a hug. At one stage I'm pretty sure they didn't have a bench. Could've had the points if not for Hodko and his ice cool composure.
Senor Spectre - The Eels will probably need a hug after thinking they had won against the Eels before a late Luke Brooks field goal stung them. Same could probably go for the Rabbitohs as well losing by 1.
