The Other Warriors

NSW Cup Warriors go down narrowly

Despite being the first and last scorers of the game against the Wyong Roos, the Warriors went down by less than a converted try 8 - 12.

The match boded well for the Warriors as winger Ngataua Hukatai scored in the corner off a slick cut-out ball from Steve Waetford. Siliva Havili had laid the platform the play before with a surging run out of dummy half opening up space for Agnatius Paasi running off his shoulder and then linking up with Michael Sio to put them deep in Roos territory.

Unfortunately Tui Lolohea missed the sideline conversion, which would end up being costly for the Warriors.

Soft ruck defense in the middle third let the Roos in for two easy and costly tries. One to Shaun Boss the other to veteran former international Mark 'Shrek' O'Meley. This allowed Wyong to go into the break head at 12 - 4.

The Warriors were the only team to score in the second half. On the back of some swift ball movement and changes in direction, centre Dominique Peyroux scored in the corner. However, once again Lolohea was unable to convert the try.

This is where the scoreline would stay for the remaining half hour as both teams strengthened up their defenses to the point where no team were able to score again.

This week is another tough challenge for the Warriors as they take on the table topping Penrith Panthers back at Mount Smart.

Junior Warriors get left behind

A host of line up changes just before kick off and a slow start proved too much for the Junior Warriors to come back from going down 18 - 36 to the Broncos.

The experienced and in-form Broncos unit came into the match in third place with five wins from their last six games. This was evident in their dominant first half performance taking a 70% possession rate and 30 nil lead into the break.

Fortunately for the Warriors, the half time break did them some good. They were able to stem the flow of Broncos attack long enough to get on the board through centre Semisi Tyrell in the 66th minute.

However, the experienced cool heads in the Broncos helped them hit back a few minutes later to put the game out of reach.

A highlight for the Warriors was Tyrell picking up another two tries in the final stages to complete his hat trick.

This loss means the Warriors were not able to keep themselves safe in the top eight and now have to take on the Panthers who are sitting one place above them.
