Diary Of A Warriors Fan
Some of it was sublime, some of it was tough, some of it was a bit of razzle dazzle but it was all lovely. A lovely afternoon of footy from the Warriors, the type of performance which fills me with joy as I watch Ricky Stuart come up with a bunch of jibber jabber.
To be honest, it was more de ja vu than anything else. In Auckland, the Raiders looked shit and in Canberra they looked shit.
While the outcome was the same with the Warriors looking like an unstoppable force both in terms of silky smooth pizzazz and up the guts toughness, they were playing in Canberra and without Shaun Johnson.
They were also without Ben Henry but seeing Sione Lousi out their on the edge was a nice sight, so was seeing Ben Matulino in the clear, so was Sam Rapira touching down twice, so was Manu getting a hatty ... it was all pretty nice.
I ain't wanna sound like a Feleti Mateo cheerleader, but it's pretty clear to see how he can impact this side. He gives them another dimension on attack and his short balls were things of beauty.
Chad Townsend and Thomas Leuluai weren't stand outs, they didn't break the lines, set everything up and lead the team with expert precision. They didn't need to be, they just simply did their job and Johnson's second week on the sideline gave them both another opportunity to put their best foot forward. And they did, it was probably a good game for that as they didn't have to over play their hand and confidence was oozing out of the team's collective pores.
Besides a few changes that would depend on troops and game plan in the forward pack, I reckon we've settled on a back line. David Fusitua slipped up a little and now we're seeing Dane Nielsen do a good enough job to keep his spot. The other factor in this is Ngani Laumape, who I like on the wing. Despite being relatively short, he catches every thing and he's not only built like Konrad Hurrell but you'd imagine they'd have a pretty good relationship on that right edge.
I wouldn't worry about the injuries, nor the finish. There were 12 guys on the field for shit's sake and they were up 50 odd zip. Yeah yeah, for and against but if they keep winning then who cares. In my books, props to Coach McFadden for getting Hurrell, Sam Tomkins and Jacob Lillyman off. Oh and he got a chance to give Tui Lolohea some more game time, win win.
I could go on for days about Tomkins, Rapira, Vatuvei, basically everything awesome about the game including their defence, but they smashed a shit Raiders team.
On to the next...
