The Offseason Octopus - 10 Thingy-Ma-Jigs

Kia ora, it's 2015 and it's that much closer to the start of the NRL season. The cricket is keeping me occupied, but my mind is always drifting to the world of the NRL and some big body contact. Here's 10 thing-ma-jigs about the 2015 season, thingy-ma-jigs? Well some of them are random thoughts, some are predictions, some are desires, some are hopes and some are just true blue thingy-ma-jigs...

  1. 2015 will be about the fans. There's going to be a point when all the confusion with daft rules and daft boardroom decisions stop, because the fans have had enough let alone the players. We all love the NRL, but maybe if a severe lack of common sense continues to be evident, then we might need to do something about that. Power to the people.
  2. 2014 was kind of about the fans because the South Sydney Rabbitohs won, but we will see this taken to a whole new level when a team that's not the Rabbitohs, Roosters, Sea Eagles or Bulldogs wins the ship.
  3. Matt Moylan will become one of the best fullbacks in the game.
  4. The Newcastle Knights will be much better off without Wayne Bennett and Darius Boyd, they won't have immediate success but they'll get there.
  5. The Knights won't be better than the Brisbane Broncos, or will they? This Broncos team has that vibe - a lot of signings, lots of talent, but for some reason it just doesn't work. Hmm, we'll see.
  6. Josh Reynolds and Trent Hodkinson won't lead New South Wales to 2-0.
  7. It's going to be a tough year for the Canberra Raiders, they'll be at the bottom. While the Cronulla Sharks and St George Dragons surprise a few people.
  8. As the very best players get a bit older, we will see the new crop really start to stamp their mark - Moylan, Shaun Johnson, Luke Brooks, Anthony Milford, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (who will be a beast at fullback) and Daly Cherry-Evans who will be the king of the NRL.
  9. That's also the case with the big boys as two of the best have left the game and there's some young lads who are absolute freaks. Think Jason Taumalolo but go further with guys like Tepai Moera for the Eels, Willis Meehan for the Chooks while Tauamlolo's old bash brother Tariq Sims has moved to Newcastle which could push him to another level.
  10. Concussion, it's an issue that is taking over the sporting world and it's going to continue to put the NRL in a spin.
