Kiwi NRL Stocks Round 17

Stocks Up

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak - Ivan Cleary is going to have a big decision to make with DWZ filling Matt Moylan's fullback boots extremely well. DWZ, besides Bryce Cartwright was one of the Panther's best against the Rabbitohs and the rise of this young man needs to be noted.

Elijah Taylor - 54 tackles for the workhorse, good effort.

Issac Luke - Despite his Bunnies forwards struggling to get the better of the Panthers, Luke managed to run for 140 metres from dummy half as well as squeezing out three offloads and he made the second most tackles for the Rabbits.

Mark Ioane - In his first game for the Dragons Ioane scored a try where he looked like a centre or a winger, not a prop. He only played 18 minutes but had 64 metres with his six carries - a far better outing than fellow signee Luke Page.

Jason Taumalolo - Another monster effort from Taumalolo saw him run for 177 metres in just 42 minutes on the park. Taumalolo is a power player so big minutes aren't expected of him but I also think that Paul Green is smartly monitoring Taumalolo's minutes and workload which if right, is a great sign.

John Asiata - With much of the attention falling Taumalolo's way, we can't sleep on John Asiata who is becoming a solid prospect with the Cowboys. Asiata had 116 metres in 46 minutes off the bench.

Mathew Wright - After being robbed of NRL footy last season thanks to his link to the Cronulla Sharks, Wright continues to show that he's a more than handy NRL winger. Against the Dragons Wright had 161 metres, two tackle busts and an offload.

Ligi Sao - Manly have got their full compliment of young forwards back and Sao is proving to be very much a part of that group and should be a forward to watch in the coming years. Against the Sharks Sao ran for 126 metres, broke three tackles and got two offloads out in 34 minutes on the field.

Ricky Leutele - I'm not sure where Leutele sits in Shane Flanagan's long term plans, but I'm liking what I'm seeing from the young centre. He had an assist and ran for 131 metres in a solid display.

Manu Ma'u - He's one of my favourite players and was back to his usual antics against the Tigers with some brutal running. He went for 147 metres in 80 minutes and made a solid 30 tackles.

Bureta Faraimo - Power, pure power with 141 metres off 14 carries on the wing for the Eels.

Stocks Down

Sika Manu - 21 minutes? Three carries?

Sosaia Feki - This time it wasn't the arrival of Ben Barba that saw Feki's minutes limited but injury, which probably made Shane Flanagan's decision a bit easier. Feki was impressive on the wing and scored a try but he hasn't played more than 50 minutes in the last three games.

Manaia Cherrington - Not Stocks Down because of his performance, but I've liked what I've seen from Cherrington at dummy half and I don't really see much of a future there with the Tigers. He'll only really get game time if Robbie Farah's out and Cherrington once again showed that he's got what it takes to play in the NRL each week, it's just a shame that we won't see enough of him after Origin - unless Farah takes a few weeks off with his hand injury which, with the Tigers struggled at the bottom of the ladder could be a smart option. Stay tuned.
