#KiwiNRL Kevin Proctor Joins Gold Coast Titans

Kevin x Koni #Yeeeow

After establishing himself down in Melbourne and playing a key role in the Kiwi Storm Gang (the best gang of kiwi lads of any NRL club), Kevin Proctor will return to the Gold Coast. Proctor moved to the GC from Te Kuiti as a youngin' and now moves back north for at least four seasons in yet another shrewd piece of business from the Titans (who enjoy a helping hand from the NRL).

Melbourne are always in a tricky position as they've got a seemingly never-ending conveyor belt of talent coming through, ensuring that they need to invest in this talent and upgrade contracts etc. Proctor was as close as they come to leaving Melbourne a few years ago, rejected a lucrative offer from Canberra to stay with the Bromwich bros homies and more than likely taken less money to do so. Now, Proctor is cashing in and returning to the GC which is a perfect two birds, one stone situation.

The Storm ensured that another kiwi lad Nelson Asofa-Solomona stayed in Melbourne for at least another season despite plenty of attention from other clubs as well as locking up Kenny Bromwich for a few more seasons, meaning that the Storm would have struggled to match the offer from Gold Coast. It's all business and by ensuring that they locked up two kiwi lads with copious potential, the Storm had to let a kiwi lad go.

This move will open up an edge spot for the Storm as Proctor and Tohu Harris consistently played 80 minutes on either edge. Kenny Bromwich could be the key benefactor in all of this as he's perfectly suited to taking Proctor's spot after spending this season coming off the bench to play through the middle. Bromwich can play edge forward and middle forward equally well, with his footwork, power and skill capable of giving the Storm a different look about their attack on that right edge.

Gold Coast now have three edge forwards of low key quality. This season, Chris McQueen and Zeb Taia did an excellent job out on the edges and they gave the Titans size along with enough mobility to pose a threat. Agnatius Paasi also filled in out on the edges, but with the departure of Greg Bird, the door is now open for Paasi to perhaps settle down in the Titans No.13 jersey.

Proctor will start for Gold Coast, he's an international forward and would be on a decent salary so anything less than starting on the edge would be silly. That will push Taia or McQueen to the bench and with Proctor calling the right edge his home down in Melbourne, McQueen may have to make way. This would give the Titans a funky right edge of Proctor and Konrad Hurrell, hmm.

McQueen is incredibly versatile, having started his career on the wing and he's capable of playing centre as well. Josh Hoffman played left centre this season and he's joined the Eels so McQueen could cover that spot, although the Titans have also signed Dan Sarginson who is currently playing left centre for England. Expect Proctor to start though for sure, with McQueen or Taia coming off the bench which won't be all that bad. That Proctor's signed a four-year deal is also significant because it'll be Proctor who the Titans build around, allowing them to offload Taia when the time is right which will ensure that the Titans won't need to do too much business for edge forwards.

Neil Henry has made a bunch of handy signings, especially with a kiwi flavour as he snapped up Hurrell from the Warriors as well as getting Leivaha Pulu out of reserve grade and flipping Paasi from being a reserve grader to a bit of a beast in the NRL. Proctor is a far bigger signing that those lads, yet it's still a wise piece of business considering the experience and reliability that Proctor offers. Even the though of Proctor building a lethal combination with Ash Taylor, as he did with Cooper Cronk is enticing.

This leads us to a possible Gold Coast team for next season which looks bloody strong if you ask me...
