Hard & Fast: Elijah Taylor Joins Wests Tigers
Elijah Taylor has shifted from Penrith Panthers to Wests Tigers, signing on with the Tigers for the rest of this season.
Taylor had left the Warriors, following Ivan Cleary to the Panthers but since Cleary was given the boot last year Taylor has struggled for game time under Anthony Griffin.
The Tigers will put Taylor to far better use, they desperately need a defender like Taylor to help them stop leaking so many points. Taylor will likely play through the middle and he could feature on the edges as the Tigers are short on edge forwards, plus Taylor is a lovely ball-player so his combination with Luke Brooks, Mitchell Moses and James Tedesco will be interesting.
Taylor fits the Tigers' needs as he's not only the sort of player he needs, he's also a player who is in need of an opportunity so he won't be too expensive. The deal's only for this season so it cut into their salary cap too much and the Tigers should have room to upgrade his deal for next season and beyond if all goes well.
Don't sleep on the Tigers making another move as Manaia Cherrington is currently in a similar position to what Taylor found himself in at Penrith. Cherrington is a more than capable first-grader but is behind Robbie Farah and Matt Ballin will come back from injury at some stage.
Taylor to the Tigers is a good move for everyone involved, hopefully we'll see Taylor get more game time with the Tigers and contribute as we know he can.
