A Week In Hip Hop

So you might have been under a rock for the past week and missed the latest drop from Kendrick Lamar, yeah people, it's got to that point. It's honestly been a while since I and I'm sure many hip hoppers have stopped what their doing for a fresh release from a certain artist and I reckon Kendrick has reached that stage where any release makes you stop ... and then jam that release a few times.

That happened with this new tune from Kendrick and it's pretty clear that Kendrick is the man to lead hip hop forward. There's many other super solid rappers, but Kendrick just has that aura where he's on a mission. It's pretty exciting...

We got the trailer for Straight Outta Compton served to us earlier in the week and it looks pretty crisp.

I speculated that maybe Suge Knight was lurking around the filming of the biopic when he decided to run some people over and it looks like that was true. Apparently Suge's role in the film hadn't really been run past him and I'm sure he was a little bit worried about how he may be portrayed ... the scene in the trailer where a few dudes in red shirts beating someone in what looks like a studio should explain that.

Hip hop is in a breezy spot, good music is being made and everyone has their creative juices flowing which means there's plenty of good shit to look forward to. The Purple Tape Files is a documentary based on Raekwon and Ghostface Killah's classic album, which should be a must watch.

Right, so you're going to interview comedian Hannibal Buress, so you might as well get the funky Chance The Rapper to do the interview right? Yeah, you better because it makes for an awesome read. Keep an eye on some funk being served up from Chance in the near future as well.

B-Real had the West Coast veterans Tha Eastsidaz in his whip, which was in turn boxed out...

Plenty more chiefin' when Ab-Soul stopped by the GGN studio to do what it do. Apparently the herb is legal around the world? Who would have thought, while we live in fear.

There's heaps of these tour diary/vlog things out there on Youtube so I don't want to post every single one from every single touring artist, but here's Logic's latest one...
