Ernie! Shame Sydney, Shame.

Shame Sydney, Shame refers to the all round dominance that our wee nation has had over those in Sydney in the past week or so. For starters Auckland City ended up 3rd at the FIFA Club World Cup, while the Western Sydney Wanderers were left to whinge about a bit of water on the pitch, then our good old Wellington Phoenix played the role of that annoying team you hate, defeating Sydney FC yesterday.

Sure, it's kind of sad that I'm celebrating the dominance of our footballing nation over an Australian city but do you see any fucks given? No, we're dominant, ruling the football universe ... down under. Ya know ... world famous in New Zealand type of shit.

Anyway, that annoying old performance from the Nix. For far too long that sentence has referred to the Nix annoying the hell out of their fans, so it's with great joy that I say it was annoying if you were a Sky Blue. We once again allowed the other team to fluff around with it, commonly known as dominating while we pounced on the counter with our favourite Aussie Nathan Burns once again on the score sheet. Twice, 2-0. Shame.

I'm not sure where I sit with the Nix, they obviously like to be on the ball and there were periods against Sydney FC where they fluffed around with it (it a positive sense) and looked rather good at it. This is Ernie's plan, but they look kind of good allowing their opposition to fluff around with it. Why? Because, and I think this is a fair statement - we have the best midfield in the league.

They may not be the most outlandish, but they are the best defensively for sure and they can all do a similar job. Albert Riera is usually the deepest, but Roly poly and Rodriquez hold their own with defensive duties and any time your try attack up the guts, you've gotta go through this terrible trio. So it doesn't really bother anyone when the opponent has the ball for a while as they won't be able to rip us to shreds through the middle, that's unless they pump it wide a fair amount. The Nix still need to step up out wide.

Nathan Burns looks more likely every game and I think it's coming thanks to Roy Krishna and Michael McGlinchey demanding a bit more attention. I've loved seeing McGlinchey continue to improve and he's at his best getting the ball asap and looking for his nifty footed forwards. Earlier in the season when Jeremy Brockie was starting, he was largely absent and McGlinchey and Burns couldn't really connect. Now with Krishna offering a threat on one side, McGlinchey has two genuine options to shovel the ball on to ... throw in to the mix that the Nix generally kept the same shape despite Sydney trying to attack more, and you have both Burns and Krishna in 1 v 1 situations. Good luck stopping that.

It was a great game to win as the Nix climbed above Sydney in to 4th, yup the Wellington Phoenix are 4th! One point behind Adelaide might I add, we're on 19 so Adelaide who are on 20 and Perth who are on 22 are in our sights.

Who are ya!? Yeah Michael McGlinchey, you drop back a little deeper and demand the ball because you're the man. Keep picking delicious passes, keep being a nuggety little force in the false 9 area ... some would say it's classic #10 stuff, which I like because my favourite player is Zinedine Zidane. You're not quite him, but you're going good so keep it up.

Nek Week ... haha guess who we have next week!? Western Sydney, in Wellington. Up ya Sydney, we're here to dominate.
