Kiwi County Tour #6 (Royal London One-Day Cup)
The Kiwi County Tour batsmen continue to lead the way in the Royal London One-Day Cup, with Tom Latham and Ross Taylor consistently churning out handy knocks at #4 for Durham and Nottinghamshire respectively. Latham and Taylor are both in the top-40 for runs, but their teams are currently in the middle of the North Group; Taylor's Nottinghamshire are in 5th (2-2-1) and Latham's Durham are 7th (2-3).
Funky reminder that Latham is captaining Durham and this is a fantastic opportunity for Latham to not only continue in developing his craft, but also as a leader given that he's had a few opportunities to step in for Kane Williamson with the Blackcaps. Here are Latham and Taylor's overall records after 5 games...
Latham: 17th in runs, 5inns, 210 runs @ 42avg/81.08sr, 2 x 50+.
Taylor: 38th, 4inns, 159 runs @ 39.75avg/89.32sr, 2 x 50+.
James Franklin has also being chiming in with runs at #7 for Middlesex, with a bunch of not-outs that highlight his finishing ability. In 5 innings, Franklin has 4 not-outs 3 of those not-outs featured Franklin scoring over 25 runs (29*, 29*, 62*) and if we go back a tad further, prior to the start of the RLODC, Franklin played 2 games for Middlesex 2nd XI and in the second game he scored 78*; Franklin had a streak of 5 not-out innings and in total he has 5 not-out innings in 7 games for Middlesex and their 2nd XI this winter.
Middlesex also have a winning record, 3-2 after 5 games, which has them 3rd in the South Group. Things haven't quite been as lovely for Neil Wagner and Matt Henry, who are also in the South Group and their respective teams Essex and Kent are 6th and 7th; Essex are 2-3, Kent 2-2.
Henry has been solid, but definitely not as dominant as he was in the County Championship and that's funky when you ponder the overall Blackcaps narrative of Henry being a far better ODI bowler than a Test bowler. Henry has 7w in 4inns @ 28.71avg/5.43rpo and his tied at 21st in wickets
Wagner is slightly ahead of Henry, tied in 8th on 8w in 5inns @ 36.87avg/6.55rpo and Wagner had a niggly last 2 games as he conceded over 7rpo in both games. This gives Wagner the worst average of any bowler with 7+ wickets and Wagner is the only bowler averaging over 35 of all the bowlers with 8+ wickets.
For Essex and Kent to improve, it goes without saying that Wagner and Henry will need to find some dominant form. Or, at least in Wagner's case take a few economical wickets.
Lord Jeetz sits below Henry and Wagner in wickets, but his 6w have come in just 3inns which gives him an average of 18.33/4.30rpo. Tied for 23rd in wickets, only four other bowlers with 6+ wickets have a better average than Jeetz.
