2023/24 Super Smash Scout: Wellington Raid Alexandra

Wellington executed a legal and lovely ram-raid of Alexandra with two comprehensive victories over Otago. The ladies were led by a big knock from Amelia Kerr before their spinners got to work and Otago couldn't muster much support for Suzie Bates, while Wellington's blokes rolled Otago for 47 and enough said.

A-Ker hit 88 runs @ 154sr and Bates hit 70 runs @ 127sr. A-Kerr had far better mahi from her Blaze comrades in support with Jess McFadyen hitting 23 runs @ 92sr, Georgia Plimmer hitting 23* @ 115sr and Jess Kerr whacking 18* @ 200sr.

Bates had support for 10 overs with Bella James hitting 21 runs @ 116sr and Caitlin Blakely hitting 28 runs @ 121sr, but Wellington's championship mana was on display as they elevated in the key stages of this encounter. Wellington's late runs from Plimmer and J-Kerr is one example of this, which was followed 6 wickets falling just as Otago appeared to be in control of the run-chase.

The most interesting nugget for Wellington's batters how Plimmer is yet to be dismissed after two innings. Plimmer hit 41* @ 110sr in her first knock which was also against Otago and followed it with the 23*, combining for 64 runs @ 112sr. There aren't many current White Ferns dominating Super Smash aside from A-Kerr and Bates, yet Plimmer continues to chime in with important innings for Wellington.

Wellington has the funkiest bowling attack in women's Super Smash. Of the five Wellington bowlers who have taken a wicket, four are spinners and all four average below 20. J-Kerr is joined by Natasha Codyre as the only seamers who have bowled for Wellington...

  • Leigh Kasperek: 5w @ 9avg/5.7rpo

  • Xara Jetly: 4w @ 13avg/6.7rpo

  • Amelia Kerr: 3w @ 14avg/5.2rpo

  • Nicole Baird: 2w @ 15avg/6.9rpo

  • Jess Kerr: 2w @ 22avg/5.6rpo

  • Natasha Codyre: 11rpo

Wellington Blaze have used six bowlers and five have taken wickets. Otago Sparks have used eight bowlers and seven have taken wickets, with four of them averaging over 20 which blows out to three averaging over 30. This includes Eden Carson (2w @ 40avg/7.2rpo) and Hayley Jensen (1w @ 88avg/7.3rpo).

Wellington blokes skew towards seam as leggy Peter Younghusband is the only spinner to bowl for the Firebirds...

  • Nathan Smith: 6w @ 5avg/4.2rpo

  • Peter Younghusband: 5w @ 8avg/6.2rpo

  • Iain McPeake: 4w @ 11avg/7.7rpo

  • Logan van Beek: 3w @ 16avg/7.3rpo

  • Michael Snedden: 2w @ 17avg/11rpo

Tim Robinson has 169 runs @ 211sr after two games.

Every Otago Volts bowler is conceding over 9rpo. Of the six bowlers used for Otago, Matt Bacon is the only lad with 2+ wickets and he left the field injured during Otago's brief bowling innings.
