The Other Warriors
NSW Cup Warriors Go Down Hard
A chopped and changed NSW Cup Warriors side had a tough day at the office after going down 4 - 42 to the Mounties in Sydney. The largest defeat of the season also saw the Warriors drop a place on the ladder to sixth.
The ladder is so dense at the top that had the Warriors one they could have jumped to second place, however the loss and a few other upsets over the weekend saw Mounties move from sixth place behind the Warriors all the way to third.
It was a surprisingly heavy loss for the Warriors who were coming off three straight wins. However, injuries to Solomone Kata, David Fusitu'a, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Sam Lousi and Albert Vete as well as Carlos Tuimavave missing on bereavement leave it was a tough ask for the Warriors to get the two competition points.
Penalties, possession and field position were all dominated by Mounties who shot out to a three try lead in the first 15 minutes of the game. They added to the tally going into the break up 30 nil.
Mounties were in again after the break before the Warriors eventually got one back when a sin bin took Mounties down to 12 men. Mounties were in again once more in the second, but to the Warriors credit it was a much better defensive effort in the second half.
The NSW Cup Warriors have another away game this Saturday against the Tigers.
Junior Warriors Set The Top Side Challenge
The Junior Warriors shook the monkey off their back before the top side with a strong win over the Junior Raiders in Canberra. The Juniors were yet to achieve a victory in Canberra. Their closest was a draw last year, so the impressive 54-6 victory was a definitely good effort.
The only points against the Warriors came in the 72nd minute, which was only a little blemish on their overall display. An unrelenting Warriors side managed to score nine tries from the 26th minute to the 66th minute notching 50 points of their final score.
The Warriors had came bursting out of the blocks to get up four nil after a try to Captain Sam Lisone (backing up from the NSW game against Mounties also) within the first few minutes.
The flow of possession and territory was building for the Warriors but it wasn't until the 26th minute when the flood gates opened. Tries to Ata Hingano, Marata Niukore, Kouma Samson, Paul Ulberg and Brad Abbey boosted the Warriors scoreline. Nathaniel Roache and James Bell also picked up a double each.
Right across the park the Warriors were putting on a show with numerous tackle breaks, metres gained and a total of 10 line breaks.
The victory over the Raiders see the Warriors sneak back into the eight spot as well as doing wonders for their points differential.
They take on the Sharks this Sunday, who are sitting near the bottom of the ladder. However, the Warriors have been upset by a some of the bottom teams already this year, so they'll need to be focused for the push to the finals.
